Alfredo Duno, the Reds' top prospect catcher, suffered a right hamstring injury in late July that could sideline him for the remainder of the minor-league season and potentially delay his arrival to Cincinnati. The injury reinforces the need for the Reds to re-sign veteran catcher Tyler Stephenson, who is set to enter free agency after this season, rather than risk losing offensive production at the position. With the Reds scoring the fewest runs in the National League this year, losing Stephenson would force them to rely on inferior offensive options like Jose Trevino or P.J. Higgins. The team should act now to extend Stephenson before competing offers from teams like the Yankees make negotiations more difficult.
